Background:
Yarwin is the son of Callan Blackthorn and Mira's older half-brother.
As such he is the true heir to the Blackthorn throne. Yarwin is the
son of Aeryn Gaff, a Shai'ay that met and fell in love with Callan
Blackthorn early in Callan's life. She was literally "the one that
got away", as Callan made it a habit of killing his mates at one time.
Yarwin was discovered by Nargus, Callan's father and tossed into an
oubliette for a time, until he was found by Task Diamondwood.
As promised, she took the secret of his identity to the grave with
her. Yarwin, however, chose his sister's wedding reception to let his
father know who he is, something Callan did not take very well.
Over the years, Yarwin grew to trust and reluctantly admire his father,
and eventually accepted his station as Heir Apparent, Black Prince
of the Diirlathe.
During the war for the Keep, Yarwin was faced with
the same Black his grandsire had given him to as a 'chew toy' before
having him thrown in the oubliette. Thotin had left Yarwin scarred
and seriously injured before leaving him to rot in the oubliette.
In the Keep, the oubliette is warded...any attempts at using healing
gifts, magic or natural shifting abilites causes the user a great
deal of physical anguish, usually far too much for the victim to do
anything to heal or save themselves.
His time spent there left his true form
horribly scarred and it was years before he was able to come to terms
not only with who he was in life and where his loyalties lay, but also
to reveal his true appearance to his wife. The changes between his
true appearance and what most people are accumstomed to seeing are
minimal. His height is only an inch taller, his shoulders and overall body
mass greater...he simply looks more like his father. In this form, the
most notable differance is the road map of scars from Thotin's teeth and talons,
something that left him with a thick scar that runs from his left temple
to his chin and keeps his mouth on that side in a permanent sneer.
Brief Mythos on the Shai'ay:
The Shai'ay are an incredibly rare and reclusive race. One may go thousands and thousands of years without seeing another of their kind,
which is perfectly fine with them. They are Shapeshifters, able to take
animate and inanimate forms, even assume the form of something such
as a flock of birds. The females are magic users and have the gift of
Sight. Generally, they will travel as fortune tellers and healers,
but should you find one, you'd best use her talents quickly...they
generally move on in a matter of hours.
The males of the race have the same shapeshifting abilities, yet no ability
to use the sight or the magic found in the females. They do tend to be
exceedingly skilled at being jewelers, and as the females travel as fortune
tellers, so too do the males as traveling goldsmiths.
Yarwin, at one time, perpetuated and encouraged the idea that he was a Drago Shai'ay, a fairy dragon of sorts, both to conceal his birthright
as well as his race. In truth the Shai'ay are a shy people, and usually don't associate with outsiders.
Yarwin's mother was an exception to the rule. She had set herself up as a traveling fortune teller when she met
Callan. But that is another story yet to be writen...
Personality:
Yarwin can be simply wild. He loves to have fun and tease, often makes jokes at
his own expense, as long as it gets a laugh out of someone, his theory being
he can't make fun of someone else if he isn't willing to make fun of himself
first. He is soft hearted and tries to be charming, sometimes laying
it on a bit too thick. He has an eye for women of any kind. He can
and will demonstrate the Blackthorn tendancy to Rage when a loved one
is threatened, but has far better control over it than his sister or
even his father.
Weapons:
Yarwin carries a large bowie knife at his hip at all times unless traveling
in 21st century Terra and tends to keep a few
other nasty surprises concealed about himself. Over the years Drey Axewielder
subjected him to the same training as Mira, simply to put him to work
more than anything else, and as such, Yarwin is
more than able to use most weapons. During war-times, Yarwin
generally carries a pair of DragonSteel katar and uses them with
deadly efficiency.
Special abilities:
Yarwin has the natural ability to convincingly shapeshift into any
form, a usefull talent when trying to hide or escape. The Shai'ay
females are natural magic users, but Yarwin, being male, is fairly
limited in his ability. He also has inherited his father's ability
to forge wonderous things and uses this talent as well a just a
little Shai'ay magic to make jewelry for family and friends.
As a result of Yarwin being part Silver, he has the ability to cast
lightning and ice...a gift of the StormBringer, one of the deities that
created the Silver race. As all Aerdonian dragons and their mixed blood
offspring, Yarwin can make use of his dragonscale as armour and his generally takes the form of the usual breast plate, back plate and
bracers. The colors are most often silver with a shirt of lapis beneath,
however, when truely enRaged or caught up in Battle-Rage, the colors
can lean more to the Black side with a shirt of blood-red crimson and
armour that is heavily tinged black. This same ability to shift the
scale into seamless armour also enables him to do a similar trick and
form blades or spikes from various parts of his body during a brawl should
he be weaponless.
Tatoos and such:
Yarwin became soul-bonded to his wife, Rachel at their wedding and
as such, bears a bondmark of a golden dragon wound around his upper
right arm. He also has the Blackthorn crest on his right shoulder,
a Black Dragon, rampant on a wreath of black thorns and the band of black
thorns around his upper left arm. He wears a Claudaugh wedding band on his
left ring finger, his wedding ring from Rachel.

~The Road I’m On ~
Three Doors Down
She said life’s a lot to think about sometimes,
When you’re living in between the lines
And all the stars are sparkling, shine everyday
He said life’s so hard to move in sometimes
When it feels like I’m towing the line
And no one even cares to ask me why I feel this way
And I know you feel helpless now,
and I know you feel, hold on
That’s the same road, the same road that I’m on, yeah
He said life’s a lot to think about sometimes
When you keep it all between the lines
And everything I want, I want to find one of these days
But what you thought was real in life
Oh, it somehow steered you wrong
And now you just keep trying
and trying to find out where you belong
And I know you feel helpless now,
And I know you feel alone
That’s the same road, the same road that I’m on
What you thought was real in life,
Somehow steered you wrong
And now you just keep trying
And trying to find where you belong
I know you feel helpless now,
And I know you feel alone
That’s the same, the same road that I’m on…
