Mate:
Tia - Killed by Nargus during the Inquisitions when Araxmarr was thought dead. Daemon was forced to watch while her throat was cut; he was chained in the Hanging Gardens and helpless to save her. Their bond was freshly forged, and as such, Daemon did suffer the Roesor d'Viggtuii (Grieving Madness) though not as severely or as violent as his liege lord did when Araxmarr lost Task. That changed when his memories were 'shuffled' by a Dragon-Caller named A'Runa Charon during the recent war against the resurrected Nargus for the Keep. Being forced to re-live it all once more was simply too much for the First Capatain, and eventually, the carefull mental walls he'd built around his grief began to crumble, culminating in his attack on Eos D'Riel, An'Thaya's juvenile daughter, after Araxmarr and An'Thaya's wedding. Despite attempts by both Mira Badb Catha and A'Runa Charon, the damage could not be undone, and gradually, Daemonorel began to lose his Horizon and slowly went insane.
Background:
Daemonorel is the First Captain of the Black Guard, the highest ranking Captain in a faction of Callan's army that is composed of 15 Flights of pure Black Dragons. Each flight consists of several Wings of dragons and make up a group that has been fanatically loyal to Callan Blackthorn for thousands of years. The Black Guard is loyal to Callan only, and still address him as Araxmarr or by his full draconic name.
This Guard is blood-bonded to Araxmarr, and as such each member is Marked on their right shoulder blade with the Blackthorn Crest, the ring of black thorns with the rampant dragon in the centre. They were the first of Nargus's military force to come to Araxmarr's camp after he began secretly subverting the Emperor's troops. Of these, Daemon was the very first to quietly take the mark of the dragon heir.
Daemon was a loyal friend to Araxmarr long before taking the blood-mark he bears. After Araxmarr was thought dead by Nargus and the Black Guard had been discovered, Daemon was captured in human form, chained with DragonSteele and was taken to the Hanging Gardens. There he was tortured, strung up and beaten by Nargus in the hopes he would reveal other Black Guard and their complete numbers. When brute force failed, Nargus brought out Daemon's soul-mate, Tia and forced her to her knees before her mate, bare from the waist up. Her tongue had been cut out, her body beaten as well for the same reasons. At her plea along their fledgling bond, Daemon still refused to talk, which enRaged Nargus to the point he slit Tia's throat. As she died, Daemon was dropped to the ground, still in chains, and Nargus smeared the Captain's hands through the growing poo of her blood, leaving it on his hands. That series of events is what A'Runa used to bring the Captain down during Laer and triggered a new slide into madness from which Daemon was unable to recover from on his own. It took the combined efforts of Mira Badb Catha, a SoulHealer and A'Runa Charon, a trained, Elvish Dragon-Caller to re-order the memories and heal his damaged soul.
Even so, the thread of Tia that remained in his soul until his fit of Rage after Araxmarr and An'Thaya's wedding had to be replaced. Daemon now has a choice...Accept a bond to the very dragon caller that almost killed him and hurt him deeper than any wound could...and yet finds himself loving...a decision that will leave him charged with Treason by Araxmarr himself, or walking away from her and praying his will is strong enough to fight the Madness that will forever eat at the edges of his essence. A choice that may well be moot...once Araxmarr finds out about the attack on Eos, his step-daughter.
Personality:
Daemon is the aggressive, cruel natured, quintessential Black Dragon. *Of which Callan once said: Black dragons could not get together and cook a meal without killing each other and letting their dinner escape*
He is hot tempered, unpredictable, has an acidic sense of humor and is an all around violent bastard. He also has a nasty tendancy to brawl and push people around physically in order to test their mettle. As a Black of Aerdon, he has little use for elves, and will not bother to conceal his near hatred of them.
Daemon does have some redeeming qualities, however hard they may be to find initially. Black Dragons do hold Blood sacred, bondmates, offspring and close family are never to be injured outside of familial disagreements and they are never killed. To kill ones own family member will get one labled a Kinslayer and leaves ones life forfeit to the first Blood dragon that tracks them down for vengeance.
Once Daemon's respect is won, he is loyal to the point of death if need be, and fiercely protective of those he considers friend, family or comrade in Flight.
Weapons:
An expert in all blades, Daemon has a fondness for throwing knives, boot daggers, and short swords. Prefers the cross-bow to the longbow, but generally, if a distance weapon is needed, will use DragonFire and can use said Fire as Callan and Mira does, but with less finess and control over the results.
Marks and Scars:
Most Blacks allow wounds earned in battle or mating to heal on their own, the exceptions being wounds that are or would be life-threatening. As such, in Laer, Daemon has many scars from former battles, including thick, white scars that encircle his wrists...marks from his extended hanging time in the Gardens and has recently acquired a set of fine white talon scars on his left cheek from Brandubh Badb Catha. These are all considered marks of honor, and are looked on in high favor by prospective mates.
Daemon has one bond-mark, that being the mark he took when first blood-bonded to Araxmarr as mentioned above. It is the Blackthorn crest on his right shoulder blade.
